What Are the Benefits of Virtual Mediation?

A woman with long dark hair and glasses is sitting at a wooden table using a laptop. She's wearing a beige sweater. Beside her is a turquoise mug and a pastry on a plate. The background shows shelves and a large window with daylight streaming in, creating a cozy atmosphere. Read more at Divorce Squad (divorcesquad.com)

What are the benefits of virtual mediation?

If you and your partner/spouse choose to use mediation as a form of alternative dispute resolution instead of proceeding to trial, then virtual mediation can be an excellent option!

When COVID-19 swept the world, life as we knew it rapidly changed, seeming to fast forward into the future. I recall being on lockdown in my apartment, wondering what would happen to the world of family law, my kids’ education, and everything else our society did customarily in person.

With the world closed for business, the computer jumped into its place and would change the way the world conducted business moving forward, which includes but is not limited to, alternative dispute resolution, such as mediation.

Here are my TOP FIVE reasons why virtual mediation can be beneficial for you:

1. Comfort: You can wear pajama bottoms and still look nice from the waist up since you are on camera.

2. Convenience: You can be on the zoom mediation at home, which can be super convenient, especially if you have children, a dog, or other home obligations.

3. Privacy: You can have breakout rooms where you can chat solo with the mediator while your partner is in a private room where he/she cannot hear you talk.

4. Maintain Your Peace: You can put yourself on mute and/or turn your camera off and take camera breaks (depending on your mediator’s rules), which can come in handy if you need to collect yourself.

5. Saving Time and Money: You can conclude for the day and go about your business as usual in the comfort of your home without having to pay for gas or waste time driving home.

In summary, virtual mediation is a convenient way to achieve your divorce goals and reduces many of the stressors of in-person meetings.
