Spring Cleaning After Divorce

Decluttering and spring cleaning after divorce can feel SO GOOD!

Springtime is such a wonderful time for renewal, in our hearts, minds and messy closets. I also would suggest it could be a perfect opportunity to weed out some elements from your past that our no longer serving your present. For this type of guidance, I would turn to the professionals who know much better than I do how to best guide you through this process of spring cleaning after divorce to give you a fresh, new feeling in your home and in your heart.

Here are 3 books to consider, all of which can be found on Amazon:

1) The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up: The Japanese Art of Decluttering and Organizing by Marie Kondo. This book will have you rethinking how you view every object in your house, and how your fold your underwear.

2) Outer Order Inner Calm: declutter and organize to make more room for happiness by Gretchen Rubin. Rubin has spent years researching happiness, and has insight as to how to maximize your ability to be happy in your home.

3) The Little Book of Hygge: Danish Secrets to Happy Living by Meik Wiking. This book will have you lighting candles all over your home and snuggling under a chunky knit blanket. While not specifically focused on cleaning, it provides details as to how to feel happy in your home.

In addition to the decluttering that can take place in your spring cleaning, be sure to think of things in your home that are not making you happy. For example, the picture frame you have hanging that was given to you as a wedding gift that sub-consciously makes you feel sad when you see it, or the cake stand that you used to make your now ex’s birthday cake on. If there are small things with unpleasant or sad associations, consider swapping them out for something else. There are many deserving charities that you can make donations to, or maybe you have a friend that wants to do a swap of some household items with you. Use your spring cleaning time as a way to feel organized in your home and also feel happy about your future.

A good spring cleaning after divorce proceedings and the subsequent new life can not just get things out of your environment that are no longer serving you but make space for all the new, wonderful things out there waiting for you!
