Four Divorce Self Care Musts

Learn our four divorce self care non-negotiables and how they can help you manage this process.

If you are getting a divorce, you may be getting swept up in an endless stream of worries about the future, and anger about the past. While there is an overwhelming amount to consider and contemplate, you must just focus on the day you are in, and in this day, there are divorce self care essentials you need to do in order to successfully get through every day of the process.

Here are four divorce self care musts you need to do every day during your divorce:

Be incredibly thoughtful about what you put into your body. Drinking alcohol will not help. Drink lots of water and limit caffeine. Consuming unhealthy foods will make you feel lousy and you need your body feeling as good as possible, so make smart choices about your consumption.

Move your body. Even if all you can do is go for a 20 minute walk, force yourself to go for the walk. It will give you the boost that you need for you to keep moving forward. If you don’t want to go alone, ask a friend or family member to join you.

Sleep. Don’t stay up all night doomscrolling or binging Netflix all night. Take care of yourself like you would a child. Put yourself to bed at a reasonable time for a full night of sleep. If you are feeling exhausted during the day and have the ability to take a rest, take a little nap. You deserve it, and don’t feel guilty about it.

Read/Listen to a book that can help you moving into the next phase of life. There are so many wonderful options out there. If you’re coming out of a codependent relationship, and many are, then check out the book Codependent No More by Melody Beattie. You can find some other great recommendations here.

Going through a divorce can drain you completely. By focusing on these divorce self care basic steps, you will ensure you are taking care of yourself today. Do it again tomorrow, and the day after that. You are on the right path. You’ve got this!
